Very happy w/ this productI have very thick natural African American hair and am always struggling for something that works well with my texture.I loved that this product was natural and void of harsh chemicals.I used this for a wet twist out (let it set for a day ) and the results were AWESOME. my twist out lasted about 8 days while my fiance and I were in Europe! I included pics to show it twisted, day one, and day 2,3, and 9(in front of the colisseum) hair. VERY HAPPY w/the resultsThere was no 'crunch', no flaking, and this did not dry out my hair.I have used 'Eco Styler' olive oil gel and that does ALL of those things (crunch, flake, and dry).This and the 'Giovanni' gel are my favorites now.I am going to reorder this again and I recommend you give it a try also.

Not only does it have great natural looking hold for my straight blow away hair, but it doesn't leave the residue in my hair that other gels leave.     I tried many options for a hair product. I wanted something that had med-strong hold, left no residue, had primarily natural ingredients, and was easy to work into my hair (short black hair, thick and straight). From homemade beeswax pomade to store bought gels, nothing seemed to hit all of my goals until I got this one. It works like a DREAM. I was especially suspect of it at first because I usually have bad luck with hair gels, preferring the hold of mousses and pomades. But this surpassed my expectations with its performance, while still being light enough to wash out easily, even rinsing it off of my hands or combs with solely water. Doesn't have much of a scent, which is something I don't care about anyways as long as it doesn't smell terrible or strong. Also my hair feels pretty nice when touched by myself or my SO; it is soft, not tacky or sticky in any way when hands run through it. And the hold lasts a LONG time, with little to no change in the shape, volume, and quality of hold after a couple days and is unaffected by humidity or wind.

    The ONLY thing I don't like about it is a relatively minor complaint: packaging. Another goal I had when looking for a new product was something that used little-to-no plastic, and if it did use plastic would be easily recyclable like a hard shell bottle. This soft shell squeeze bottle will not be easily rinsed out because the opening is small. Also it says it is recyclable with a small recycling symbol but doesn't provide a recycling number. I will contact Alba Botanica and see if I can find out what recycling number applies to the plastic used in the bottle and cap. In the end, it ends up being a small complaint for me given how well the product works for me in all other aspects.

    I've used other Alba products that are awesome but this one missed the mark. It has an OK hold but what ruins it for me is the feeling you get when you run your fingers through your hair. It feels tacky and almost like there is wax in your hair.

    This is a weird one. It was a complete disaster in my hair; made it very sticky, straw-like, puffy, all kinds of bad things. BUT, it works pretty well in my son's hair. He is 9 years old, with curly, thick, coarse hair. It goes in his hair smooth like water, but defines his curls, gives some hold, and feels just a little stiff, like any gel, but a lighter. I'm not sure why my hair has had such a bad reaction to this gel, and also to the Alba leave-in condition (that was HORRIBLE in my hair). I have long, layered, thick but fine, wavyish hair. Since switching to natural hair products, the texture of my hair has gone from smooth and silky to a frizzy, poofy mess, and this product just enhanced the frizz and poof. So, if you have hair like mine, this is not for you, but if you have hair like my son's, this should work great.

    I have been doing a modified version of the "curly girl" method with my hair for about 3 years now. The curly girl method is sulfate, silicone, and paraben free. Aside from that, I also only like to use the more natural products. So, my pool of acceptable hair care products is pretty limited. For the large part of the 3 years I've been CG, I've been experimenting with disappointing products. The best ones I've found have been too expensive for me to use long term. The more affordable ones usually weigh me down, make me feel greasy, or dry me out. I have fine, low porosity, 3B curls which get weighed down really easily. I like when my curls look light, airy, and natural, yet well defined and frizz free. This gel delivers it all for me, without weighing me down or making me greasy. At first, it did both, but then I realized I was using too much. I only need a small (quarter size?) blob for my shoulder length hair. I needed a huge palmful of most other gels, so this was a huge change (and relief)! Start at the ends, then rake through from the roots down. Then finger comb throughout until all strands are evenly coated, making sure not to focus too much on the hair line. Scrunch, pin, blow dry, and I'm set.

    In the winter, I need a little more moisture, in which case I find that the Alba leave in conditioner or the Cream is awesome. I just switch around between the three products, or a combination of them, all year long. The only other product I use is another, lighter, leave-in conditioner (different brand) in the summer. I tend not to use conditioner in the summer, so a leave-in is all I need before my gel, but the Alba leave-in is really heavy... too heavy for summer use on my hair.

    Overall, I highly recommend this is you are looking for a natural, soft hold gel that won't weigh you down. I know, I know... it says it's strong hold, and it does control/style like a strong hold, but it doesn't get crispy...so I consider it a soft hold :)
